Left's all right
Bernie Williams has looked so comfortable in limited duty at the corner outfield spots that Joe Torre said: "I've seen enough to satisfy my curiosity. I'm very pleased, and he's in great spirits."
With Johnny Damon occupying center field, Williams said he "could get angry about it, or I could try to make the best of the situation. And that's what I decided to do."
He'll mainly sub in right field for Gary Sheffield, but Williams also handled left field well during his first start there Sunday.
All clear
Jorge Posada had the medical packing removed from his broken nose and he checked out fine with an optometrist. He could receive two at-bats as designated hitter tonight against the Phillies.
Posada lobbied to catch, but Torre wants to hold off another day or two. Still, when asked about catching Randy Johnson on opening night, Torre said, "I think he could do that."
Briefs
Gary Sheffield had three hits and an RBI and Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run homer during Monday night's 5-4 Braves win at Disney World. Shawn Chacon gave up five runs on six hits in 51/3 innings (92 pitches). With one start left in spring training, "I'm ready to go," said Chacon, who had seven strikeouts and three walks.
