Neil Walton drove in two runs to lift visiting Vero Beach over Daytona, 6-4, on Wednesday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Walton, who went 2-for-4 for the Devil Rays (4-8), singled in Christian Lopez in the second to open the scoring and plated J.T. Hall in the sixth to knot it at 4-4.
Reliever Jino Gonzalez (1-1) picked up the win for Vero Beach after giving up one hit and striking out one in 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Starter Wade Davis allowed four runs on five hits, striking out six and walking two batters in 4 1/3 innings.
Starter Jeff Samardzija tossed five strong innings for the Cubs (7-6), allowing two runs -- one earned -- on five hits, with two walks and a strikeout. Jon Mueller (1-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on five hits with a strikeout in 1/3 of an inning.
