Rangers put DeRosa on DL , call up former first-rounder Meyer
April 19, 2006

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- The Texas Rangers placed second baseman Mark DeRosa on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday and purchased the contract of former first-round pick Drew Meyer from Triple-A Oklahoma.

The Rangers also transferred right-hander Adam Eaton to the 60-day disabled list. Eaton is recovering from surgery to repair a tendon in the middle finger of his pitching hand, an injury the expected No. 2 starter sustained in his last spring training start.

DeRosa could have been playing regularly with starting second baseman Ian Kinsler (dislocated thumb) on the disabled list and expected out at least two more weeks. But DeRosa has a high sprain in his left ankle that has bothered him for two weeks. The DL move was retroactive to Saturday.

D'Angelo Jimenez has been the starter at second base since Kinsler got hurt on a stolen base attempt April 11 at Anaheim.

Meyer was the 10th overall pick by the Rangers in 2002. He was hitting .360 with four doubles, two triples and seven RBIs in 11 games at Oklahoma. Meyer was drafted as a shortstop, but can also play second or third base, or the outfield.

Meyer was with the Rangers for their game Wednesday night at Seattle, his first in the major leagues.
